DoubleTree’s Renovation Strengthens the Miami Airport Convention Center Campus

A major renovation is now in progress at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center, reshaping the property into a sharper, more elevated hospitality experience at one of Miami’s most active crossroads. The transformation—focused on the lobby, guest rooms, and the DoubleShot Tapas and Burger Bar—began on March 2nd and will continue through this fall, aligning design, comfort, and functionality with the demands of a high-performing convention-and-leisure destination.

The Lobby: A “Living Gallery” Built for First Impressions

The arrival experience has been redefined through a soaring, open-concept “Living Gallery” lobby designed to deliver instant impact. Massive structural columns grounded with dark, horizontal marble panels create a bold architectural frame, drawing the eye upward toward a multi-tiered recessed ceiling that amplifies the space’s volume.

Underfoot, high-sheen porcelain floor tiles in a striped runway-like pattern of white, grey, and chocolate naturally guide guests through the lobby and toward the heart of the hotel. A grand, three-dimensional art installation—interlocking geometric links in grey and orange—anchors the space with sculptural energy, while curated “social clusters” of mid-century modern furniture (including curved sofas and deep teal accent chairs) invite conversation, informal meetings, and relaxed waiting.

Guest Rooms and Suites: Designed as Coastal Sanctuaries

While the lobby is designed for movement and connection, the renovated rooms shift the mood into calm, emphasizing a light, airy narrative that complements the hotel’s expansive views.

King Guestrooms feature a signature “horizon-line” watercolor wall covering behind the bed, paired with creamy light-brown cabinetry and a floating desk to maximize usable floor space. The finish is refined through integrated bedside lighting with mesh accents, introducing an industrial-chic detail within an otherwise serene palette.

In the suites, the tropical theme deepens with a deep teal wall covering featuring a monochromatic palm-frond pattern. This backdrop is paired with hard-surface flooring and a dedicated lounge area that includes a sleek low-profile sofa and a wood-tone coffee table, creating a more residential feeling for longer stays and higher-touch travel.

DoubleShot Tapas and Burger Bar: A Sophisticated Social Core

The DoubleShot Tapas and Burger Bar is also undergoing a dramatic architectural shift, bridging the pace of an airport hub with the atmosphere of a sophisticated lounge. The bar is anchored by a massive dark back-bar structure with three integrated digital displays, framed by warm, amber-glow pendant lights.

The lounge introduces distinctive “cage-back” armchairs with rich wood frames and blue upholstery, offering privacy within an open plan. High-gloss oversized floor tiles reflect the ambient light, while textured blue wall coverings define zones designed for communal dining, casual meetups, or intimate cocktails.

What This Means for the Miami Airport Convention Center

This renovation is more than a design update—it strengthens the entire Miami Airport Convention Center (MACC) campus experience by upgrading the spaces that surround the event day. For convention attendees, exhibitors, and meeting planners, the hotel becomes a more powerful extension of MACC: an elevated arrival point, a more restorative guest-room environment between sessions, and a redesigned social hub where networking can continue naturally long after the agenda ends.

By harmonizing luxurious textures—cool marble, mesh accents, and lush botanical patterns—with smarter, social-forward layouts, the DoubleTree is strategically aligning Miami’s vibrant identity with the high-function expectations of a world-class convention destination. When the final touches are completed later this year, the property will emerge as a stronger, more cohesive gateway—supporting both leisure travelers and the business audiences that keep MACC moving.
